The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) specialization equips advanced practice nurses to deliver healthcare to infants, children, and young adults up to age 21. For over five decades since 1965, PNPs have collaborated with pediatricians and healthcare teams to offer holistic care through health promotion, disease prevention, and treatment of minor and chronic conditions. This program builds a strong theoretical and evidence-based foundation in advanced pediatric, adolescent, and family nursing. Students gain clinical experience in diverse acute care environments while learning to treat pediatric patients. PNPs are trained to conduct thorough physical assessments, document medical histories, diagnose and treat common acute conditions, analyze diagnostic tests, manage ongoing health issues, offer counseling, and provide patient education. Depending on state regulations, many PNPs also have prescription authority.
