Worcester State University's Master of Education in Middle School Education program enhances your teaching abilities and deepens your subject expertise, preparing you to thrive as an educator for grades 5-8. Tailored for teachers holding an initial middle school education license, our Education Department's reputable program provides an advanced degree with specializations in biology, English, history, humanities, mathematics, or Spanish.
Progress through the program at a comfortable pace, choosing between full-time or part-time study. Courses are available during fall, spring, and summer semesters in various formats—in-person, online, or hybrid (a combination of both). Our esteemed program also offers outstanding affordability. Notably, students who obtained their initial license through Worcester State's Post-Baccalaureate Certificate for Initial Teacher Licensure in Middle or Secondary School Education can apply four of those courses toward their M.Ed.
Through coursework in both your specialization and education fundamentals, you'll develop a balanced understanding of subject mastery and middle school teaching methods, deepening your insight into adolescents' developmental requirements, capabilities, and motivations. Additionally, you'll research a classroom-relevant topic—designing your own proposal and executing the project with faculty mentorship.
Our alumni enjoy fulfilling teaching careers in middle schools throughout Massachusetts. The master's degree in Middle School Education can propel your professional growth and may serve as a stepping stone to professional educator licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
