Beyond fundamental geography classes, your curriculum will include Programming for Non-CS Majors, Statistics I, Introduction to Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems II, four upper-level courses (200-400) in either physical or human geography, and a choice of one from: Independent Study: Geography, Readings and Directed Research, or Internship: Geography.
With the escalating impacts of climate change, grasping earth systems and their connections to human activities grows increasingly vital. As a Geography Major, you'll examine weather patterns, terrain features, and water systems while exploring how societal trends like globalization, population shifts, city growth, and cultural identity formation influence the planet's surface and climate. You'll build critical analytical and problem-solving abilities applicable across scientific, environmental, and policy-focused professions. Next, you'll apply classroom knowledge through practical experiments and investigations in our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and earth science labs, plus an off-campus internship or research placement with a community partner. High-achieving students may join Gamma Theta Upsilon, the international geography honor society.
