Our Master of Science in Human Sciences offers a specialized track in Nutrition and Dietetics. This program caters to students pursuing both the degree and eligibility for the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) certification exam.

ASENDThe Nutrition and Dietetics specialization within our Human Sciences graduate program provides in-depth exploration of food, nutrition, and their impacts on dietary habits, wellness, and medical conditions. Our curriculum focuses on preventive healthcare and wellness initiatives, complemented by primary and outpatient care training. The program maintains full accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).

The accompanying Dietetic Internship spans 12 MONTHS and combines with the Master's program for aspiring registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs). Participants gain comprehensive training plus 1200 hours of supervised clinical experience, preparing them to excel on the RDN certification examination.

2.7 (on a grading scale with 4.0=A, approximately a B- average) on the last two years of Bachelor's coursework, 3.0 on all previous graduate work (approximately a B average). An applicant was awarded a Master's degree at an accredited college/university in the United States and has been in residence in the United States continuously prior to application to SIU (not out of the country for more than one calendar year). You have a minimum of 60 graded (A, B, C) hours of recent coursework completed at an accredited college / university in the United States with continuous residence in the United States prior to application at SIU. Pass / Fail, Satisfactory / Unsatisfactory, or Proficiency credit is not acceptable. The English language requirement may be met by submitting: 550 on the paper-based TOEFL, 80 on the internet-based TOEFL, 6.5 on the IELTS

Admission in the program is for the fall semester only and after the student has completed the online centralized internship application. Acceptance into the Master of Science in Human Sciences with a concentration in Nutrition and Dietetics and Dietetic Internship program requires completion of an ACEND accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics and official transcripts verifying the completion of the baccalaureate degree.

Completion of a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetic (ACEND) or evidence of completing all but one semester of coursework in an undergraduate DPD. Students will receive appropriate documentation from their DPD Coordinators that is submitted with Dietetic Internship Program application. Students should supply appropriate documentation (Verification Statement) from their DPD Directors that is to be submitted with their application.
If you have completed a minimum of a bachelor's degree at a US regionally accredited university or college and course work accredited by ACEND, you are eligible to participate in the Dietetic Internship Match. Applicants to SIU combined MS/DI program must complete an application for the internship through the Dietetic Internship Central Application Service at DICAS Portal.
Applicants to the Dietetic Internships (DI) must register for the DI match throughD&D Digital to create/modify their prioritized list of dietetic internships for computerized matching.
Grade point average (GPA) 3.0 or higher is required (on scale with A=4.0).
Desire to complete a Master of Science with a dietetic internship emphasizing Nutrition and Dietetics.
International students who have had their education, training and credentials completed outside of the United States or have not completed a Didactic Program in Dietetics should refer to the Academy of Nutrition Dietetics for more information.
International students whose native language is not English are required to pass the TOEFL examination with a score of 550 or above. For questions related to education and credentialing requirements for international students, more information see the SIU Graduate School website.
All students must be admitted to SIU Graduate School in good standing. Apply HERE. A $65.00 application fee is required at the time you submit the graduate school online application.
