The English Department at Western Washington University provides a two-year Master of Fine Arts program in Creative Writing, fostering an environment that prioritizes artistic growth and intellectual adaptability. Our program emphasizes multigenre or cross-genre approaches, preparing graduates to navigate genre conventions with flexibility and understand how different forms influence each other. The curriculum includes diverse courses that either concentrate on multiple genres or promote boundary-pushing experimental works.

Our program integrates creative writing with literary studies, offering seminars in both areas alongside classes in rhetoric, composition, digital/technical writing, film studies, and linguistics. Graduate Assistantships are available, delivering excellent teaching preparation and chances to contribute to the acclaimed Bellingham Review as editors.
