The Mechanical Engineering program at Western New England University offers a comprehensive and adaptable field of study, enabling you to investigate topics such as materials science, mechanics of solids and fluids, thermodynamics, heat transfer, kinematics and control systems, vibrations, and product design and innovation. Our curriculum thoughtfully blends theoretical instruction with practical applications, equipping students with the essential intellectual and professional skills needed for designing and manufacturing mechanical systems. You will play a key role in advancing technologies across various sectors, including aerospace, transportation, energy, healthcare, construction, and robotics. Mechanical Engineering applies scientific and technological principles vital to industry, defense, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and societal progress. This expansive discipline has a daily impact on society, addressing anything that moves, from the human body to machinery. Mechanical engineers are responsible for creating and improving numerous aspects of the modern world, from cars and aircraft to satellites, robots, medical devices, power plants, and communication tools. The opportunities in mechanical engineering are virtually limitless.
Our program delivers a strong theoretical foundation alongside extensive hands-on training via design projects in our state-of-the-art laboratories. You will enroll in a mix of courses covering different industrial sectors, such as power generation, automotive, aerospace, or Mechatronics. During your junior year, you can select a specialization in General Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics, or choose the Green Engineering course sequence. Throughout your interdisciplinary education, you will also work alongside faculty and peers from other majors on innovative research and the creation of new technologies.
