Western Michigan University's Chemistry Department offers an accelerated degree program that enables undergraduates to earn their Master of Arts degree more quickly while completing their Bachelor of Science. Eligible students can apply between 6 to 12 credit hours from 5000-level courses taken during their undergraduate studies toward an M.A. in chemistry, provided they complete these requirements within two years of finishing their B.S. degree.
This accelerated pathway allows chemistry majors to obtain both degrees by completing a total of 135 combined undergraduate and graduate credit hours.
Students must have completed a minimum of 80 and a maximum of 96 credit hours in their undergraduate programs, including credits earned from advanced placement.
Students must have a minimum accumulated grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 at WMU and 3.25 in chemistry classes.
Minimum English proficiency test scores:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 80 iBT
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: 6.5
Pearson Test of English, Academic Module (PTE): 54
Michigan English Test (MET): 57
