The Bachelor of Science in Education with a focus on Integrated Science is a five-year program designed to qualify graduates for teaching certification across all scientific disciplines for grades 7 through 12. The curriculum encompasses diverse science subjects including earth science, geography, biology, chemistry, and physics, with students selecting one specialization area. The first four years primarily cover science content courses, while teaching methodology instruction begins in the fourth-year spring semester. The final year involves completing remaining content requirements, science education methods classes, and a full-year field placement in a partner school district, culminating in a 13-week student teaching experience. Early academic advising is strongly recommended due to the carefully structured course sequence.
Program Learning Objectives
Upon completion, graduates will demonstrate the ability to:
Design varied inquiry-based lesson plans that effectively engage diverse learners in scientific exploration.
Create safe and ethical learning spaces that incorporate proper chemical handling, safety protocols, and humane treatment of living specimens within their certified subject area.
Develop equitable evaluation methods to assess student progress and measure achievement of science education objectives.
