This advanced certificate program equips educators to address the specific requirements of English Language Learners in K-12 settings. Upon finishing this program, participants will qualify for Michigan's ESL endorsement by completing one extra course (TEL 6220).
The curriculum caters to educators who:
Aspire to teach ESL (requires MDE ESF certification),
Aim to support both linguistic and academic development of ELL students,
Plan to work in schools with substantial ELL populations,
Seek positions as district ESL specialists or coordinators (requires MDE ESL certification),
Bachelor's degree, initial teacher certification and prior teaching experience.
Minimum English proficiency test scores:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 80 iBT
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: 6.5
Pearson Test of English, Academic Module (PTE): 54
Michigan English Test (MET): 57
Application deadlines:
Fall: April 1; Spring: August 1
