The dual degree program in French Studies equips students for international law careers, particularly those requiring expertise in French legal systems and traditions. This program is ideal for students looking to combine their undergraduate passion for French culture with professional legal training. Applicants must apply separately to both the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) and the Law School, as each institution evaluates candidates based on their own criteria without special admissions considerations. Applications can be submitted concurrently or consecutively. Current NYU Law students in their first or second year may apply to GSAS for the Dual MA in Law and French Studies. Proficiency in French is mandatory for all dual degree applicants.
This combined program typically takes three to four years to finish. The Law School mandates 83 credits for the JD, with up to twelve earned at GSAS. Meanwhile, GSAS requires 32 credits for the MA, allowing eight to be completed through Law School coursework.
