To pursue certification as a technical education instructor at vocational centers, comprehensive high schools, or trade academies, Western Michigan University's occupational education studies program is tailored for your needs. Developed in collaboration with 14 Michigan community colleges, this WMU program holds accreditation from both the Michigan State Board of Education and North Central Accreditation for Teacher Education. Successful completion grants you a State of Michigan Provisional Certificate with a vocational teaching endorsement.
During your studies in WMU's occupational education program, you'll undertake a full-semester teaching internship guided by experienced educators at University-approved schools. This immersive experience prepares you not just for classroom instruction, but for professional growth through reflective teaching practice. Throughout the semester, you'll receive coordinated support from both school mentors and WMU faculty to ensure your development as an educator.
A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school/secondary school (or earned equivalent).
