The English & Language Arts program equips future educators, curriculum developers, and researchers for professional roles in English/language arts (512). This curriculum emphasizes scholarly insights in literature and language instruction, enhances teaching approaches and materials, and supports educational institutions and young learners. Participants gain expertise in crafting lessons, managing classrooms, delivering instruction, and employing evidence-based techniques for teaching various language components including writing, literature, grammar, and vocabulary.

Every BU undergraduate, whether incoming freshmen or transfer students, completes coursework within the BU Hub—the University's comprehensive general education framework woven throughout the undergraduate journey. Hub requirements can be fulfilled through diverse avenues, including major-related courses, electives, and extracurricular engagements. English Education majors typically meet BU Hub standards in Diversity, Civic Engagement, Global Citizenship, Communication, and key Intellectual Toolkit components through their Wheelock College of Education & Human Development coursework—critical competencies for future educators. Arts & Sciences courses may address additional requirements, so students should consider Hub objectives when choosing these classes. Remaining Hub criteria can be satisfied through various non-major courses or select cocurricular opportunities.
