Western Michigan University's child development and services program equips students for careers supporting children and families across various care environments. The curriculum offers two specialization paths: child programming and administration (meeting Michigan's childcare director qualifications) or child life foundations (building essential skills for child life specialist roles).
Hands-on learning
WMU's child development majors undertake semester-long internships tailored to their specialization. These placements deepen practical knowledge, provide real-world experience, and expand professional connections while strengthening resumes.
Additional growth opportunities come through participation in student groups like the Child Life Student organization, offering networking and career development experiences.
