Gaining admission to Western Michigan University's music performance program requires successfully passing the school's audition and evaluation process, conducted every November, January, and February. As a performance student, you'll receive intensive training in your chosen instrument, keyboard, or voice while carving out your unique artistic identity. WMU's program provides exceptional performance chances both on campus and at renowned venues worldwide. Our graduates frequently continue their studies at elite institutions or pursue careers as collaborative performers, educators, and musical directors. Alumni have found success on Broadway stages, as opera coaches, jazz musicians, composers, arts administrators, music therapists, and conductors.
Music performance majors at WMU qualify for both talent-based scholarships from the School of Music and WMU's academic awards. The program opens doors to diverse career paths, all emphasizing rigorous training and artistic excellence.

A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school/secondary school (or earned equivalent).
