Western Michigan University's arts administration program prepares students for leadership and management roles in theater and cultural organizations, as well as fostering connections between audiences and the arts. The program combines essential coursework in performing and visual arts with specialized training in theater management, cultural organization operations, and key skills like arts programming, marketing, communications, fundraising, financial management, venue operations, and audience development. Students enjoy curricular flexibility to select electives aligned with their professional interests, subject to approval by the Theatre Arts Management director. The program emphasizes real-world learning through immersive experiences in the regional arts sector. WMU arts administration students gain hands-on experience by working in administrative capacities with theater productions, music ensembles, or dance performances annually. These production experiences serve as practical learning laboratories. Numerous opportunities exist to assume administrative and managerial positions within the College of Fine Arts and across Kalamazoo's vibrant arts community.
A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school/secondary school (or earned equivalent).
