The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Alternative Teacher Licensure program spans two years as a residency. During this time, participants are employed by a school district under a provisional teaching license, serve as classroom teachers, and complete coursework through the School of Education. Upon successful completion, candidates receive both a full Professional Educator License and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree. Western Illinois University's School of Education currently provides this program for K-21 Special Education, Secondary Mathematics, Secondary Science, Elementary Education, and Secondary English.
