The MFA Lighting program focuses on practical, experiential learning. Students gain comprehensive exposure to all aspects of lighting, working alongside professionals from electricians to designers, moving light specialists, and console programmers. With extensive production involvement, our MFA candidates utilize cutting-edge equipment including ETC consoles with beta software, the latest LED fixtures, and automated lighting systems. Creative opportunities span across theatrical productions, operas, dance performances, musicals, and special events.

The design curriculum prioritizes cultivating production aesthetics and lighting artistry, fostering storytelling skills within a cooperative, encouraging team environment.

Qualification Requirements

Prospective candidates for the degree of master of fine arts in theatre must have a B.A. or B.F.A. degree or equivalent from an accredited institution. Ordinarily, a minimum of thirty semester hours in theatre at the undergraduate level is expected to have been completed with a grade point average of no less than 2.75, although, students with an undergraduate grade point average of 2.25 to 2.75 may be admitted with probationary status.
