The National Institute of Health (NIH) places significant emphasis on Clinical and Translational Science. This field covers several key research domains: 1) Human subject studies focused on uncovering disease mechanisms, developing treatments, conducting clinical trials, and innovating new methodologies, 2) Investigations in epidemiology and behavioral science, and 3) Research on health outcomes. Often described as "bench to bedside to community," translational research originates in laboratory settings where health interventions are created and tested, progresses to human clinical trials, and ultimately establishes optimal community health practices. West Virginia University operates a Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI), partially supported by NIH's Institutional Development Award Program for Clinical & Translational Research (IDeA-CTR).
