Professional Counselors specialize in preventing and addressing mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, along with related stressors that impact psychological well-being. The Master of Science in Community and Trauma Counseling Program equips graduates with trauma-informed expertise for community mental health counseling in diverse environments such as agencies, institutions, private practices, and settings affected by trauma and severe stress.
This 60-credit CACREP-accredited MS in CTC program follows a structured curriculum offered through weekday and evening classes. Designed as a lock-step sequence of 20 courses, full-time students typically finish in two years (spanning seven semesters, including intensive pre-fall sessions each year and a summer term between the first and second years). The program accommodates working professionals with part-time options. Instruction blends in-person and online learning. Graduates fulfill academic and clinical requirements for state licensure (including Pennsylvania) and national counseling certification (LPC/NCC).
Beyond classroom and digital coursework, students undertake two clinical training phases. The first-year practicum involves at least 100 hours of skill development in mental health or educational settings. Students then advance to a 600-hour internship, gaining hands-on experience in community or school placements. Program advisors assist students in securing both practicum and internship opportunities.
