The four-year program combines rigorous academics with hands-on preclinical training and direct patient interaction. Students begin treating patients as early as their second year's Summer session. Earning a dental degree opens doors to diverse career paths such as private practice, academia, research, and public health dentistry. As the state's sole dental school, it equips students to deliver exceptional, comprehensive oral healthcare. Training incorporates cutting-edge technologies like digital X-rays, dental simulators, and electronic medical records. The curriculum offers distinctive experiences in laser therapy and dental sleep medicine. Seasoned oral health professionals mentor aspiring dentists through a comprehensive approach that highlights the connection between oral and systemic health. Every student participates in at least six weeks of community dentistry through clinical rotations at rural West Virginia practices. The program fosters interprofessional education, bringing dental students together with peers from medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and public health. Community engagement at local, state, and international levels forms a crucial component of the student experience.
