The Master of Arts in Reading provides an in-depth study of the Science of Reading, focusing on structured literacy approaches. This curriculum thoroughly examines research-backed teaching strategies, preparing participants with the knowledge and skills to deliver impactful reading education. Recognized by both the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) and the International Literacy Association (ILA), this online graduate program combines academic rigor with scheduling flexibility, enabling teachers to meet varied literacy challenges with professional competence.

Those who finish the 30-credit Reading (MA) program become eligible to receive the Graduate Certificate in Dyslexia and the Science of Reading. This additional certification offers focused preparation for assisting students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. Obtaining the graduate certificate requires payment of an additional graduation fee.

Earning both the Reading (MA) and the Graduate Certificate in Dyslexia and the Science of Reading enables graduates to pursue certification as a Structured Literacy Interventionist through the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI).

Graduates of the Reading (MA) program who possess initial Missouri teaching certification may apply for Special Reading K-12 endorsement through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

Upon receipt of the official transcript from the institution students whose official baccalaureate degree conferred transcript shows a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale will receive a full graduate admission decision. Specialized graduate programs have other admission requirements determined by individual schools and colleges of Webster University.

Confirmation of graduation date (or expected graduation date).
