The Master of Fine Arts in Acting program was designed with the philosophy that rigorous, performance-focused training rooted in European and American classical works alongside significant modern plays, presented in rotating repertory, forms an exceptional theatrical education. Regular live performances for audiences are viewed as essential to artistic development. Key areas of study incorporate the methodologies of Konstantin Stanislavsky, Michael Chekhov, Jacques Lecoq, and Sanford Meisner. The curriculum spans diverse styles including psychological realism, neutral mask techniques, Greek chorus work, commedia dell'arte, sophisticated comedy, Elizabethan revenge drama, Shakespearean performance, and expressionist/surrealist approaches. Movement training focuses on posture, flexibility, and core strength, complemented by historical dance techniques and Pilates. Voice instruction utilizes a body-aware methodology inspired by Catherine Fitzmaurice's teachings.
Visiting artists frequently join the program to offer specialized workshops in movement, dance, performance techniques, vocal work, and Shakespearean interpretation, along with talent representatives from various markets who share valuable industry perspectives and career guidance.
