The Statistical Science PhD program aims to equip students with comprehensive statistical expertise while fostering proficiency in a complementary discipline. Prospective students should hold a bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, or a related field, with coursework in probability theory and mathematical/statistical theory. The curriculum combines mandatory and optional statistics courses from the Mathematics & Statistics Department with classes from a collaborating department like Biology, Economics, Education, Mathematics, or Psychology. Students are advised to include at least one faculty member from their allied research field on their committee. This interdisciplinary approach prepares graduates to create innovative statistical solutions for practical challenges within their specialization area.
