Music represents the artistry of sound, cherished globally as a fundamental element of all cultures. Across the world, people turn to music for celebrations, remembrance, connection, spiritual practices, and conveying emotions beyond verbal expression. Those pursuing music studies can specialize in performance, music history, audio technology, cultural musicology, or pedagogical approaches. The music education curriculum provides pathways to Washington state teaching credentials in general music, instrumental instruction, and vocal music. An alternative track exists for students not requiring state certification. For secondary school music teaching positions, candidates must obtain a music bachelor's degree and complete educator preparation through the College of Education to gain certification in their selected musical discipline(s).
