Exploring Art History and studio art offers insights into the historical, cultural, and social frameworks that shape our understanding, critique, and production of visual art. The timeless examination of master artists both inspires and cultivates interests as varied as the styles, forms, and broader cultural significance of the artworks that captivate us.
Art history examines artistic works—broadly defined—within their historical settings. Scholars in this field analyze visual culture, encompassing everything from urban design and iconic architecture to painting, sculpture, printmaking, and even film and popular visual media. By nature, art history is interdisciplinary: it draws from political history, religion, economics, and other disciplines to interpret artworks and the intentions behind their creation.
