The Department of Art, Art History & Design provides diverse focus areas for students, such as art history, ceramics, digital media, graphic design, painting and drawing, photography and filmmaking, printmaking, and sculpture. Learners can concentrate on a single specialization or experiment with various artistic approaches across multiple mediums.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts program serves as the department's professional undergraduate studio degree, designed to equip outstanding art students with comprehensive preparation. Established in 1997, this program aims to thoroughly prepare participants for either graduate studies or careers as professional artists.
With its intentionally interdisciplinary structure, the BFA program welcomes students from all departmental disciplines - ceramics, digital media, drawing, painting, performance, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video. Participants develop their artistic growth in an environment that fosters cross-disciplinary collaboration and exploration.
Program graduates will:
exhibit comprehensive understanding of art history, current trends, and critical analysis regarding artistic evolution and contemporary practice.
attain advanced technical proficiency and mastery in studio work.
To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman student, you must be a graduate from an approved or accredited high school. You must have a 3.0 weighted GPA in the academic core courses in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno.
Verification of having met the English requirement through one of the following options: TOEFL score 61+; IELTS (must be academic version) with a score of 6.0+; Duolingo English Exam score 95+; Cambridge score of B2+.
