Art creation in the modern era is a complex endeavor, providing artists with diverse opportunities in conceptualization, technological application, material selection, and thematic depth. Although we rely on evolving technologies and can utilize various media and techniques for artistic production, Wood-Metal Design focuses on handcrafted works that preserve the vital connection to materials and methods fundamental to human creativity in this field. The Wood-Metal Design program consists of three courses. Each class combines specialized technical skills with conceptual exploration, covering both traditional fabrication approaches and contemporary making practices. Students in Wood-Metal Design will work with numerous proven techniques, such as: soldering, shaping, basic joinery, laminating, mold creation, casting, and more. The wood/metals studio serves as a comprehensive workspace for fine woodworking and small-scale metal fabrication.
