The Clinical Science specialization prepares aspiring psychologists to push the boundaries of clinical research. Our program aims to develop skilled professionals capable of conducting meaningful studies related to diagnosing, treating, preventing, and understanding both physical and mental health conditions. Graduates will master scientific approaches to create, implement, assess, teach, oversee, and share evidence-based evaluation methods, treatments, and preventive measures. Our program holds accreditation from the American Psychological Association and the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System, while also maintaining memberships with the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science and the Clinical Child and Pediatric Psychology Training Council.
Virginia Tech's Psychology Department provides a Ph.D. program with four specialization options: Biological Psychology, Clinical Science, Developmental Science, and Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
While students can obtain an M.S. in psychology during their Ph.D. studies, we don't offer standalone master's degrees. We encourage applications from candidates with either undergraduate or graduate qualifications.
