The University of Texas at Austin's Combined School/Clinical Child Psychology PhD program boasts a distinguished legacy of scientist-practitioner education, impactful research contributions, and leadership in both academic and professional spheres. This dual-accredited program (recognized by the American Psychological Association) equips future psychologists to tackle the multifaceted challenges affecting children, adolescents, and their families across diverse environments through rigorous scientific training and clinical practice.
Hands-on training forms the cornerstone of our scientist-practitioner approach. Candidates engage in school-based practicums during three semesters starting their second year, progress to advanced clinical placements (including hospitals and community clinics) in years three and four, and culminate their training with a sixth-year predoctoral internship. Each practicum semester includes complementary coursework led by faculty, while internship placements are secured through a national matching system. Our local matching process similarly ensures students gain targeted experience aligned with their professional aspirations across various clinical settings and patient populations.
