First-year students pursuing science careers can select the College of Science as their initial academic home before selecting a specific major within the college. This approach enables students to thoroughly investigate our diverse degree programs and associated majors before finalizing their academic path. The College provides degree options across three key areas: life and social sciences (including biology, microbiology, systems biology, biochemistry, psychology, economics, and neuroscience), physical and material sciences (covering chemistry, geosciences, physics, nanoscience, and nanomedicine), and quantitative sciences (encompassing mathematics, statistics, computational modeling, and data analytics). Our goal is to help science-focused students choose majors aligned with their interests, talents, aspirations, and professional goals. Interested applicants can explore Virginia Tech's College of Science admission requirements through the Office of Undergraduate Admission's website.
