Polymer chemistry involves the creation and analysis of large organic molecules. The influence of polymer chemistry is evident in everyday items, from water containers to protective coatings on spacecraft. Establishing this new major is driven by several key factors: 1) student demand for specialized undergraduate training, 2) the field's acknowledgment of polymers as essential to chemical education, and 3) rising career prospects in polymer chemistry. We are confident that launching the Polymer Chemistry major will address industry and student needs while positioning Virginia Tech as a leader in polymer science education.
