The Mathematics Department provides an M.S. program in mathematical sciences with two specializations: applied mathematics and pure mathematics. Key focus areas encompass applied math, biomathematics, and discrete mathematics. Our mathematical sciences curriculum cultivates deep comprehension of mathematical principles, their practical applications, and interdisciplinary connections. This graduate program encourages outstanding mathematical research while delivering rigorous training that equips students for fulfilling careers, interdisciplinary growth, and continuous professional development throughout their lives.
In addition to the general admission requirements of the VCU Graduate School, the following requirements represent the minimum acceptable standards for admission:
Thirty credit hours in undergraduate mathematical sciences, computer science or related areas of which at least 18 credit hours must represent upper-level courses
Three letters of recommendation pertaining to the student’s potential ability as a graduate student in mathematical sciences
