This track attracts students who thrive on tackling challenges through mathematics and statistics. The specialized curriculum includes advanced courses in mathematical and statistical theories to enhance students' expertise in quantitative modeling and analysis. Many participants in this track additionally fulfill the prerequisites for a mathematics minor. The bioinformatics curriculum encompasses a core program offering comprehensive exposure to the discipline, supplemented by fundamental courses in biology, chemistry, computer science, and statistics. To earn a bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, students must complete VCU ConnectED general education requirements, a bioinformatics core with supporting science courses, and specialized training in biological/genomic sciences, computational sciences, or quantitative/statistical sciences through concentration-specific classes. Prospective bioinformatics majors must submit an application for program admission. Both incoming freshmen and transfer students should adhere to standard VCU admission procedures and timelines, explicitly stating their interest in the bioinformatics program on their application. Current VCU students seeking to join the program can reach out to the bioinformatics academic advisor at (804) 828-0825. Transfer students and continuing VCU students with 15+ college credits should ideally maintain a 3.0 GPA, particularly in relevant science, math, or computer science courses.
