Acquire scientific expertise and computational abilities to harness the vast array of biological data being produced, addressing the increasing need for professionals who grasp fundamental biological principles and the computational methods essential for modern biology.
Our Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics was one of the earliest undergraduate programs of its kind established in the United States. This developing interdisciplinary field focuses on utilizing computational methods to organize, examine, and interpret biological data. Recent technological breakthroughs (such as genome sequencing) have led to an unprecedented surge in the volume and diversity of biological information, rendering conventional data processing methods inadequate. The solution lies in advanced computational algorithms and tools, combined with thorough biological understanding to implement these resources efficiently. This degree program equips students with comprehensive knowledge and skills across both computational and biological disciplines, preparing them to excel in this swiftly expanding domain.
