The Master of Education of the Deaf (MDE) program holds accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). This intensive 1-2 year program focuses on equipping educators with specialized techniques to enhance communication abilities in deaf and hard-of-hearing students. The DHSS offers a distinctive, cross-disciplinary teacher preparation model that integrates instruction in audiology, speech-language pathology, and deaf education.
Prospective students are warmly invited to submit applications for our graduate studies. Admission to the Master of Education of the Deaf requires an undergraduate degree in deaf education, special education, early childhood education, or general education, along with valid teaching credentials. The program duration varies: one year (three semesters: Fall, Spring, and Summer including Maymester) for certified deaf education teachers, or two years (five semesters: Fall, Spring, and Summer including Maymester in year one, followed by Fall and Spring in year two) for teachers certified in other specializations. The extended program culminates in a Special Education PreK-12 Hearing endorsement.
