Doctoral candidates must complete at least 72 credit hours (which includes research credits). They are also obligated to fulfill a teaching requirement, pass a comprehensive qualifying exam, and develop, propose, and defend their dissertation. The program mandates five foundational courses, three specialized electives, two advanced courses per competency area, plus three supplementary electives.
Students typically enter with a background in one of the health professions (e.g., M.D., R.N., D.D.S., Ph.D. in a health related area such as psychology or biostatistics), or with a background in computing, engineering, biology, or mathematics.
The minimum acceptable score on the paper-based TOEFL is 570, and for the Internet-based test, 88. Many programs, however, require a considerably higher level of proficiency.
For IELTS, the minimum acceptable score will vary by program. In many cases, a score of at least 7.0 is desirable.
