The Department of Bioengineering provides a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Bioengineering, a PhD in Bioengineering, and a Master of Translational Medicine (MTM). The PhD and MTM programs are collaborative efforts with UC San Francisco, with degrees jointly awarded by UCSF and UC Berkeley. The Bioengineering PhD program is a unique partnership between Berkeley and UCSF, two globally renowned public institutions in engineering and health sciences. This interdisciplinary initiative merges UCSF's exceptional biomedical and clinical resources with Berkeley's strengths in engineering, physical sciences, and life sciences.

Jointly overseen by UC Berkeley's Department of Bioengineering and UCSF's Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences, enrolled students have dual registration at both campuses. They can access courses and research facilities at either location. Upon completion, graduates receive a PhD in Bioengineering bearing the recognition of both universities.
