The Theatre Department provides diverse opportunities in cutting-edge research, instruction, artistic creation, and cultural discovery. Through classroom learning and stage performances, theatre studies form an essential part of liberal arts education, equipping students with hands-on knowledge of past and present performance techniques, abilities to analyze plays, and involvement in theatrical productions as cultural artifacts. As a collaborative art, theatre influences how we view ourselves and our world. The shows presented in Neely Auditorium serve as hands-on applications of our academic program - this performance space functions as a workshop where students implement classroom knowledge to craft artistic performances for live audiences. For those pursuing theatre degrees, these productions offer intensive, focused exploration of theatrical work.
Our instructors equip students with abilities that lead to thriving careers in both commercial and nonprofit entertainment sectors, along with various other fields. Theatre graduates succeed in any profession requiring verbal and written expression, cooperative teamwork, analytical thinking, creative problem-solving, or ethical decision-making. Our academic program and stage productions also ready students for advanced studies across multiple disciplines.
All candidates for admission must present transcripts of work completed in high school.
