The European studies (EUS) interdisciplinary major caters to students seeking a comprehensive grasp of European societies while preparing for global careers or graduate studies in history, political science, economics, and cultural studies. The program's flexible curriculum allows students to develop cross-disciplinary expertise in their chosen specialization. Working closely with the program director, students define their primary focus and select courses that meet major requirements. This focus could involve thematic or comparative subjects (like Central European literature or EU law and economics) or the examination of a specific nation's culture and society (such as France, Germany, Italy, Russia, or Spain). Beyond core requirements, majors take diverse courses in social sciences and humanities, pursue foreign language studies, and complete a senior thesis.

Many EUS majors enhance their education through Vanderbilt's Global Education Office study abroad programs in Europe, gaining valuable international experience for today's interconnected world. Students can pair their EUS major with language, literature, or cultural studies programs: French and European studies, German and European studies, Italian and European studies, Russian and East European and European studies, or Spanish and European studies. The 18-credit EUS minor serves as an excellent supplement to various disciplines, including anthropology, philosophy, English literature, and political science.
