The geography master's program focuses on applying geographic perspectives to examine interactions between humans and their environment. Geographers study how locations influence human activities, analyze spatial distributions of these activities worldwide, and investigate connections between places in an increasingly interconnected planet. Established in 2002, the Department of Environment and Society pioneered this academic approach within natural resources colleges nationwide, becoming a blueprint for comparable departments at other universities. As a multifaceted discipline, geography addresses numerous topics such as social dimensions of resource management, environmental transformations, global and rural development initiatives, cartography, urban planning, disaster mitigation, and beyond. This degree program integrates hands-on skills in GIS, remote sensing, and both quantitative and qualitative methods with theoretical exploration of human-environment dynamics.
