The university's Physics program is one of its longest-standing degree offerings. Over time, the Physics Department has consistently focused on educating students while offering extensive research opportunities across various physics disciplines. Both department faculty and students regularly earn distinguished honors from the university, Utah state, and national organizations - with USU physics students achieving recognition as National Science Foundation Graduate Fellows, Goldwater Scholars, and Rhodes Scholars, along with frequent research conference awards. With intentionally small class sizes, students benefit from personalized faculty guidance that actively supports, mentors, and enables research. The program offers multiple specialization areas including: complexity studies, field theory, astrophysics and spacetime research, plasma physics, space science, and surface physics investigations.
