Physics explores the fundamental principles of matter, energy, and their interactions. Learners engage with both theoretical concepts and practical experiments guided by these theories. At USU, every student collaborates on faculty-supervised research projects, acquiring hands-on experience in university research centers and labs. This equips USU graduates with stronger qualifications for either professional careers or advanced academic pursuits. The Physics Department boasts a vibrant, nationally recognized Society of Physics Students chapter. Both students and faculty have earned distinguished national honors, including a Rhodes Scholar, two Carnegie Professors, Goldwater Scholars, among others. In addition to experimental work, many students participate in theoretical research, data interpretation, and computational modeling across various fields like general relativity, space weather prediction, surface science, and complex systems. Undergraduate physics majors can access the Physics Learning Center, where graduate students offer personalized homework assistance. Completing all major requirements leads to a degree. For a BA, students must additionally demonstrate competence in one or more foreign languages.
