The Department of Journalism and Communication (JCOM) equips students for professional opportunities across diverse communication disciplines. Learners cultivate expertise in key areas including research, content creation, video production, digital journalism, and media analysis. JCOM students frequently earn prestigious honors at state, national, and regional levels for their work in broadcast journalism, print media, digital platforms, and strategic communications. Our instructors bring more than academic credentials - they're seasoned media practitioners and acclaimed scholars with backgrounds in newspaper reporting, magazine publishing, visual storytelling, television production, corporate communications, and digital media. The program strongly encourages every student to undertake a semester-long internship prior to graduation. Through this immersive educational approach, graduates enter the workforce with significant practical experience, enhancing their employability. The curriculum mandates that all majors complement their studies with a minor to develop specialized knowledge in an additional field.
