The department provides various distinctive learning and professional development options for individuals pursuing careers with children and youth who have disabilities. This curriculum equips students to assist individuals with mild, moderate, and significant disabilities, including young children with special needs. Participants can acquire practical experience through collaborations with nearby school districts or campus-based initiatives.
The special education degree is available on the Logan Main Campus through a conventional teacher training program. It's also accessible online statewide for aspiring educators currently employed as para-professionals or certified teachers in Utah (OPTT - Online Teacher Preparation Program).
At the Logan Main Campus, combining the special education major with Elementary Education is a frequent selection (enabling graduates to qualify for both Elementary Education/Early Childhood and Special Education certifications).
Students earn a first or second bachelor's degree by finishing all mandatory coursework in the major. For a BA degree, additional foreign language proficiency is required. OPTT (Online Practical Teacher Training) credits may also apply toward a graduate degree.
