This program equips future special education teachers to work with students who have mild to moderate disabilities from elementary through high school. The curriculum deliberately links classroom learning with hands-on field experiences. Participants will gain practical experience through school placements and faculty-guided labs in public school environments. The coursework covers:
understanding the characteristics and requirements of students with disabilities
using assessments to inform educational decisions
developing programs and modifying curriculum and teaching approaches
research-backed methods for teaching reading and mathematics
strategies for managing behavior and instructing students with emotional/behavioral challenges
delivering customized, carefully monitored, and continuously assessed instruction for students with special needs
