Utah State University provides both a one-year technical certification and an associate degree in agricultural machinery technology. This unique program stands as the sole offering of its kind across the western U.S. and carries the endorsement of the Implement Dealers Association, representing regional agricultural machinery dealers and manufacturers. Beyond classroom instruction, industry partners conduct specialized training sessions at USU, enabling students to gain certifications for maintaining and operating cutting-edge farm equipment. Graduates from these programs are in high demand, boasting exceptional employment rates. The one-year certification introduces learners to the agricultural equipment sector, with hands-on training covering engines, drivetrains, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and specialized machinery for forage production, harvesting, soil preparation, seeding, and crop protection.
The associate degree builds upon the certificate program's foundation. Key coursework focuses on equipment evaluation, troubleshooting, and parts/equipment sales. As a degree program, it mandates at least six general education credits. This pathway also seamlessly articulates into bachelor's programs for agricultural systems technology or agricultural education.
