The SMTC provides three graduate degree programs featuring diverse concentrations, certification choices, and endorsement opportunities. These interdisciplinary programs reflect our dual dedication to teaching as both an art and a science, incorporating faculty expertise from various university departments. Each graduate cohort benefits from instruction by a well-rounded team of education specialists and subject matter experts, enhancing your knowledge of educational theory, instructional methods, and academic content.
Mission: To expand knowledge of impactful place-based and outdoor education methodologies
Program Structure: A two-year curriculum - initial coursework commences each fall at Teton Science Schools (TSS) for Year 1, followed by Year 2 studies the subsequent fall at the University of Wyoming. The program consists of:
15 TSS Graduate Program credits (Year 1)
15 University of Wyoming credits (Year 2)
A Plan B project completion (Year 2)
Ideal Candidates: Designed for individuals seeking outdoor teaching experience with emphasis on place-based learning and ecological studies. This specialized track is exclusively available to students admitted to the Teton Science Schools Graduate Program.
Outcome: Graduates earn a Master's degree in Natural Science Education through a customized, well-balanced curriculum and research experience.
