The Molecular Biology Ph.D. is a rigorous research-focused program. Prospective students must first reach out to a faculty member in the Molecular Biology department to explore potential advisory relationships before applying. Only after securing a faculty member's agreement to mentor them can applicants begin the formal application process for the Molecular Biology Graduate program, which accepts new students during Fall, Spring, and Summer terms.
The Ph.D. application requires several components: a professional CV, a concise two-page research statement outlining academic interests and professional goals, three reference contacts, academic transcripts, and GRE results (though this requirement may be waived for applicants holding a Master's degree). Upon acceptance, students will undertake supervised research within their advisor's laboratory, with financial support provided by their faculty mentor. The program expects students to produce publishable research for academic journals and present their findings at departmental events and scientific conferences.
