SARUP launched the Master of Urban Design (MUD) program to meet growing student interest in urban design education and anticipate rising demand for architecture and urban design professionals in the U.S. job market. This 30-credit program can be finished in just one year. Graduates will gain expertise in developing sustainable, fair, and thriving urban areas for current and future populations in dynamic city settings. This includes crafting design standards for various government entities, shaping new or revitalized neighborhoods and public areas, planning transportation systems like roads, bike paths, and transit hubs, and incorporating eco-friendly solutions through environmental design. The Master of Urban Design qualifies as a STEM discipline according to U.S. government classifications.
To complete the program, students must earn 30 credits, with a minimum of 12 credits from Architecture and 12 from Urban Planning departments. The curriculum includes 15 mandatory credits and 15 elective credits in urban design topics. Students may apply up to 6 credits from internships, independent research, or international summer programs.
Applicants to the Master of Urban Design program need: an undergraduate degree in architecture, landscape architecture, design-oriented urban planning, or interior design; design studio experience; a minimum 3.0 GPA; and the ability to provide a digital portfolio. GRE scores are not mandatory for admission.
