The Master of Science in Urban Studies equips students with comprehensive knowledge of urban communities while developing their research skills for metropolitan analysis. This curriculum emphasizes grasping social dynamics and evaluating policies that impact urban economic and social structures. The Urban Studies department provides two cross-disciplinary graduate tracks, administered through the College of Letters and Science and guided by faculty from diverse fields including Africology, Architecture, Criminal Justice, Geography, Public Administration, and Urban Planning, among other social science disciplines.

Qualification Requirements

An applicant must meet Graduate School requirements plus the following requirement to be considered for admission:

Undergraduate major in one of the social sciences or experience in relevant occupational roles such as planning, community organization or social work.
Two letters of recommendation from persons familiar with the applicant's academic ability. Recommendation forms may be obtained online from the Urban Studies Programs website.
A letter of intent (reason statement) outlining the applicant's reasons for graduate study.
Submission of Graduate Record Examination scores is recommended but not required.

You must have attended this institution for at least one year and the degree was earned at an institution in the United States, and you have lived and worked continuously in the U.S since earning the degree. Cambridge English: Advanced / Cambridge English Proficiency C1 level or higher. TOEFL IBT (not Home Edition) - 79 120, IELTS - 6.5 9.0.
